ABBYY FineReader 14 released with new features

ABBYY FineReader 14The leading OCR provider ABBYY released an updated version of ABBYY FineReader 14.  The software comes in three versions – Standart, Corporate and Enterprise. We will review features and differences between versions below. Previous FineReader 12 version was released in 2014 so it’s a long awaited update. FineReader 14 will definitely level up your business process to run smoother and faster. The software can recognize 192 languages and save to almost all formats you can think of. If you wonder why ABBYY don’t release FineReader 13, it’s because they think, that some countries and cultures don’t like number 13 so they decided to skip it. For us, it’s not so much important. If software is great, who cares for version number?

What’s New in ABBYY FineReader 14?

The main feature according to developers is powerful PDF editing tools. Now it’s possible to add, delete, replace, and correct text and images in PDF documents,  both digital-born and scanned. Additional to that you will also be able to comment and annotate, search and highlight text, quote, rearrange and rotate pages, take pages in and out, merge different document formats into a single PDF,  secure your documents and even fill out PDF forms.

Updated OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology allow even more precise document processing. You can convert images to Word, Excel, Powerpoint and other formats with more accuracy layout. Preparing document for archiving gets more and more streamlined process.

Last featured feature is an ability to compare texts from two different versions regardless formats. Maybe it is a Word or Excel file, maybe PDF, or even maybe image. The software will compare it for you.

ABBYY FineReader 14 editing PDF

Like I mentioned before, the ABBYY FineReader 14 comes in three versions, Standart, Corporate and Enterprise. The difference between versions is that Standart version doesn’t have the option to compare and automate OCR conversions with Hot-Folder feature where other versions can. The difference between Corporate and Enterprise is that Corporate is limited to 5 000 pages per month to automatically OCR from Hot-Folder with 2 CPU cores, where Enterprise can to 10 000 pages/month with 4 CPU cores allowed.

Overall FineReader 14 is a great piece of software with experience developers who made this software easy to use with superior OCR technology. ABBYY is a leading provider who started OCR with a long history of great products. Here at ScanViews, I personally have scanned and digitized ower 200 000, pages with FineReader 12 version and hoping to do even more with 14.
